The medals below are from a recent commission for the Catskill Fly Fishing Center and Museum in Livingston Manor, Sullivan County, New York. The medal was initially commissioned by Poul Jorgensen, an internationally renowned Fly Tyer and Fishing Professional. Poul died before the medals were cast. The final design was completed and cast by my own decision. He had not wanted his own image on the face of the medal but I thought he deserved full recognition for his contribution to Fly Tying and to the Catskill Center and Museum. I had many sketches of him while he visited my studio and I used them for the final portrait which has been deemed by Jim Krul, the director of the muserum and a close personal friend of Poul's, to be extremely accurate with a sense of his humor and wit.

Escape

Inspired by the vision of women masked in the all enveloping Burqa and my own claustrophobia. Clawing a way out of the entrapment, moving from darkness to light, breaking the circle, all these contributed to the concept of the medal.

Escape, Cast Bronze - 125mm edition of 20, $650

I - Eye (Inner Eye)

inspired by a photograph of the inside of my eye, the image triggered the concept of my inner vision. Seeing the images within. I created the dimensional optic nerves overlaying an eye which I polychromed to make it more dramatic. On the reverse side I put my face with my eyes tightly closed. The view is a three quarter view of my face looking down at a steep angle. I call it I-Eye

Edition of 20 - $1200 each. Cast bronze, 122mm, polychrome patina.

Millenium 2000 Medal

I created a Millenium medal for the year 2000. The obverse shown here has the symbols of the three major religions. The Judaic Star of David, on which nest the Christian Cross and the Islamic Crescent which evolve into a spiral depicting the forces of nature. The reverse contains icons representing the Crusades, the planets and the atomic symbol. All these are overlaid with a verse written by me.

From Crusades to Black Holes
Fusion - Souls
Remembering, becoming
Our future unfolds

The medals are approximately three inches square of cast bronze, with a brown patina. This is an edition limited to 50 pieces. They are $250 each in U.S. dollars

Feast or Famine

Famine, obverse - - - - - - - - - - - Feast, reverse

Another Art Medal I created which was inspired by images I saw of the starvation taking place all over the world due to wars displacing countless refugees. The disparity between those with access to sumptuous supplies of food and the starving was extremely graphic. One of the blessings of the Art Medal is its ability to show two or more sides of an issue. Thus I show here the obverse and reverse sides of my medal 'Feast or Famine'.

This is a limited edition of 50 pieces. The cost for one medal of this edition is $250 which includes mailing.
