Portrait
Medals
This
is a new page devoted to portrait medals.
The
portrait medal is an ancient form of advertising beginning with the fifteenth
century artist Pisanello. Derived from the concept of coinage the portraits
were struck or cast commissioned by kings, royalty or the wealthy they commemorated
individuals, political coups, wars (usually victories) and many other subjects.
I present here only my own medals, portraits and awards which I have been commissioned
to create.

The portrait above is of Harold Demarest, who
was the largest importer of Tonkin cane. This is the most suitable if not the
only suitable Bamboo cane useable for building Bamboo Fly Rods. He has been
feted by the Bamboo Rodmaker's Guild and the medals are issued to the best Bamboo
Flyrod builder and the best Bamboo Flyrod caster annually at the Catskill Fly
Fishing Center and Museum in Livingston Manor, New York. This is part of a "Gathering"
of Bamboo Fly Rod builders, casters and just ordinary fishermen who are 'hooked'
on using Bamboo rods. More information on the 'gatherings' can be had at the
CFFC website. http://www.cffcm.net
